Don Mason has a broad range of practical experience in project management delivery and strategic business transformation programs across leading global brands, with industry specific skills in Aviation, Telecommunications, HealthCare and the Retail Sector within Australasia, Middle East and Africa.
An accomplished expert in Project & Program Office methodologies and optimising the value of Portfolio Management, experienced in implementing strategies to embed Agile work practices into rigid Waterfall/Traditional environments and has played leading roles in setting up Enterprise Wide Program Management Office’s across diverse industries, known for shaping methodologies to suite the maturity of the organization.
Don has extensive Operational Management experience coupled with experience in working within shared services environments of Information Technology, Finance, Supply Chain and Corporate Strategy and holds a Master’s Degree in Businesses and a certified Project Management Professional and Prince 2 Practioner, as well as an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.
Don is currently leading the set-up of the Project Management capability with a focus on project delivery, for the one of the world’s fastest growing low cost carriers as well as a performance improvement unit.
Key programmes delivered
Agile Methodology: Designed and implemented the approach to deploying Agile project management methodologies within a rigid traditional environment, that resulted in the development of hybrid methodologies that encompassed both Agile and Waterfall methods.
Airline Start Up: Program managed the start-up of a new low cost airline, from developing the plan through to executing the project plan through to first successful commercial flights – value $ 125 million.
Emirates Engineering: Led the team that commissioned the Emirates Engineering Centre (55 hectare site - 8 hangars) that entailed ensuring systems readiness, business process readiness and pedantic migration planning to the new facility, whilst ensuring the fleet of 135 aircraft always remained fully serviceable.
Enterprise Wide B2B Solution: Led a B2B ecommerce solution program that transformed the way one of the world’s largest retailers managed their supply chain, this entailed integrating 1,000’s of suppliers procurement, inventory management and financial systems with the internal company systems, via an EDI gateway and the payment of suppliers via an external financial gateway (GEX).
As a leading program manager, Don has a persuasive yet resilient approach to program delivery with a reputation for delivering to the expectations of his customers, from initial formulation of the strategy through to the delivery of rigorous work programs. In addition to having over has over 10 years operations management experience learnt within the highly competitive mass merchandise retail industry.
Dons experience encapsulates the commissioning of large infrastructure facilities, leading strategic business transformation programs, delivering high value complex IT streams, establishment of PMO’s with strong governance practices and general business improvement initiatives.
His professional associations include, Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, Member of the Australian Institute of Project Management, certified Project Management Professional with the Project Management Institute and Prince2 Certified.
